In Arizona, the hostility towards folks with brown skin is escalating. They passed SB 1070. And today, a day after a judge struck down parts of the law, Congressman Raul Grijalva had to shut his office in Yuma because somebody shot a bullet through the window.
He's incredibly important to our ability as progressives to move legislation in Congress, and he's a truly good guy. And this year, because of the racial tensions in Arizona and his aggressive stand for justice, he may have a real race.
So I'm going to ask you to help him in one or both of two ways: can you donate to his campaign -- or bid on one of his doodles or other items?
Congressman Grijalva was at Netroots Nation, doodling:
(h/t Land of Enchantment)
He sent me a doodle recently that he did at the BP hearings, which I framed after appropriate oohs and aahs from my son, Henry. Its sibling is up for auction on eBay, proceeds to make it possible for Congressman Grijalva to run an aggressive campaign this year.
He's got other stuff up for auction as well.
And, as he's the co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and the biggest champion in Congress of the idea that we on the outside can and should have a real positive impact on what happens inside of Congress, I'd like to keep him there.
Can you help?
Let's send a message that we won't tolerate racism, we won't be scared by bullets through windows, and we'll protect our true champions.
